The NJ Generals were established in February 2017 with a simple idea: bring together a local group of middle school friends on one team for a fun, competitive spring hockey season. In just two weeks, that vision became reality—and the NJ Generals were born.
Operating primarily during the spring and summer seasons, the Generals compete in a wide range of leagues, camps, showcases, and youth jamborees. With a distinctive logo and strong brand identity, the club also offers high-quality hockey apparel and fan gear, along with a local skate sharpening service to support our players.
This year marks our 10th anniversary season, a milestone that celebrates the incredible growth of the club. What began with a single roster of 17 players has evolved into a thriving hockey program supporting more than 250 players and their families.
Despite significant growth, the Generals have remained committed to their core values: delivering a high-quality, high-value, and most importantly fun competitive experience for our dedicated players and families.
The Generals are led by founder and Head Coach Mike McLachlan, who brings over 25 years of playing and coaching experience to the program. Coach McLachlan also serves as the Head Coach of the Ramapo High School Varsity team and is a USA Hockey Level 4 Certified Coach. His leadership, passion, energy, and commitment to player development are felt at every level of the organization.

Our mission is to provide a competitive and supportive environment where players of all levels can grow their skills, build character, and develop a lifelong passion for hockey. We strive to teach the values of hard work, integrity, and sportsmanship—both on and off the ice—while fostering a strong sense of community and pride in every player who wears the Generals jersey.

Registration: For this season, I strongly encourage all families to register using the online form through the new website. That said, for this initial transition, the "old school" method is still acceptable, and I've included our registration sheets we've used in the past.
New Email Address: We have added: mikem@njgeneralshockey.com. While my current email will still work for now, we will will be transitioning fully to this new address and phasing out the old AOL account during this season.
NJ GENERALS HOCKEY - SPRING SEASON DETAILS:
*Season Time Frame: April until Mid/Late June. Typically 1-2 games per week, generally on weekends.
*Teams: We will again offer teams across all age divisions:
- Mite Division 6U/8U (2018-2020) - 15 games (half-ice, 4v4 format)
- Squirt Division 10U (2016-2017) - 16 games (incl playoffs)
- Peewee Division 12U (2014-2015) - 16 games (incl playoffs)
- Middle School (MS Students) 16 games
- HS Varsity (HS Students) 16 games
Note: Current HS Seniors are eligible and welcome to play.
Additional Ice time and/or Dryland training: Depending on rink availability, we may add extra ice sessions or dryland training. I rarely turn down open ice, and the dryland sessions are great for additional workouts, fun off-ice team building and systems work.
Game Jerseys/Socks: We will continue using last season's jersey design and socks. Returning players should be set unless a size change is needed. New players will need to purchase these during registration.
About the Generals: Thank you to everyone who has recommended and supported the Generals over the years. What started in 2017 with just 17 middle school players has grown into a club with over 250 active players. Last spring and summer we ran 16 full teams across all 5 age group divisions. If you are new to the Generals, WELCOME! If you are a returning player, WELCOME BACK
As a vertically integrated club, we have the flexibility to move players between teams when appropriate and allow younger players to "play up" for the added experience. We work hard to place players at the right competitive level and do our best to honor team placement requests, especially for siblings, close friends, or teammates wishing to play together.
Registration and Payment: Please register via the website whenever possible. If the "old school" way is needed/preferred (for this season), I have attached the 3 registration forms.
1) HS Varsity and Middle School Division Teams
2) Peewee and Squirt Division Teams
3) Mite Division Team.
** New players: Please fill out the entire form.
** Returning players: If your information is unchanged, feel free to just list your name and updated USA Hockey number since I have all your information from previous years. If important information has changed such as an emergency contact, or new phone/email address please update that as well.
** Payment: On the Registration form you will find payment information and how to submit the form to me. You will receive confirmation on both in timely fashion.
Registration and payment are due by March 1st.

NJ Generals Players, Parents and Coaches,
Thank you for participating with the NJ Generals Hockey Club this spring! As many of you know, this was a special season as we celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the NJ Generals! It was another outstanding year for our players, coaches, and families - and our biggest season yet!
From the Middle School Showcase weekend (Mar 21-22) thru our final game on June 24th - a Peewee Division Championship - our teams competed in 154 games during this 3-month stretch. This spring featured 190+ players competing on 10 teams in all 5 age divisions, from 6U through HS Varsity. One additional fun fact: our players represented 54 towns across 2 states: NJ (44) and NY (10).
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS:
The Generals Claim 3 Spring League Division Championships with 2 Undefeated Teams!
**Our Mite Blue (6U/8U) team completed a perfect 17-0 season to finish 1st overall in the Mite division! While official standings are not published at this level, what makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that this same group won just one game the previous season. It's an incredible example of what hard work, perseverance, and player development can accomplish.
Our Mite Navy team finished at the top of the standings as well, while our youngest Generals team, the Mite Whites played their hearts out and improved with every game! The future of the Generals has never looked brighter!
**Our Middle School Blue team finished an incredible 15-0-1 capturing 1st place in one of the league's most competitive divisions. The team dominated throughout the season, scoring 142 goals while allowing just 41.
In the 10-year history of the Generals only one other team had previously completed an undefeated season and that was the 2019 MS Blue Team (16-0, 130 GF/32 GA). I'm sure the debate over which team was the best in Generals history will continue, and I'll gladly let the alumni make their cases!
**Our Peewee (12U) team won the DII Division Championship by defeating Riptide 7-5 in an exciting final game of the Spring season. This marks the team's 2nd Championship (2023, 2026) and 3rd finals appearance in the past 5 years!
**Our Squirt (10U) team finished the regular season 9-5-1, earning the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. This group showed significant growth and improvement throughout the season. Although they fell just short against a talented Ridgewood team in the semifinals, the progress they made over the past year was impressive.
**Our Varsity Blue team finished 4th out of 12 teams in the competitive HS Varsity division. They do however take pride in handing the Division Champion Shamrocks their only 2 losses for the season.
A big reason for the Generals growth and success, not only this year, but over the past 10 years, is the dedication, time and effort of our talented Coaches and Parent Volunteers. I would like to acknowledge and thank: Dave Chen, Mike Winters, Allen Mock, Michael DiGiacomo, Eric Werner, Jacob Brodon, Matt Stratton, Kirk Lofberg, Adam Bond, Nick Bova, Chris Pariot, Michael York, Mike Gimelfarb, Hasan Ibrahim, Chad Chamides, Robert Peluso, Steve Wojtowicz, Patrick O'Connell and Scott Rumana! Also, to all the parent volunteers who ran the clock/scoreboard during our home games - A sincere thank you for your help!
